The law helps ensure that all Americans have access to quality, affordable health care. It also provides subsidies to help with the cost of coverage, as well as protections for those with pre-existing conditions.

Open enrollment typically runs from November 1st to December 15th of each year, and anyone who is eligible can enroll during this time.

Those who are eligible include individuals and families who are not eligible for employer-sponsored coverage or Medicare, as well as those whose income is at or below certain thresholds.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA), passed in 2010, revolutionized healthcare access in the United States. It established Health Insurance Marketplaces, also known as Health Insurance Exchanges, where individuals and families can shop for a variety of Health Insurance Plans. These Marketplaces provide a platform for people to apply for Premium Subsidies and Cost-Sharing Reductions, which make health coverage more affordable. One of the ACA's significant impacts was the Medicaid Expansion, enabling low-income individuals to gain Health Coverage through this government program. Health Insurance Subsidies, often linked to Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), help offset expenses. Essential Health Benefits, including Preventive Services, are now included in most plans. During the Open Enrollment Period, individuals can enroll in a plan, with Special Enrollment Periods accommodating life changes like marriage or job loss. Importantly, the ACA prohibits denying coverage based on Pre-Existing Conditions. Although the Individual Mandate requiring coverage was repealed, Group Health Insurance remains vital, often featuring Catastrophic Health Plans for emergencies. Metal Tier Plans (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum) help individuals choose the right balance between premiums and out-of-pocket costs. Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) play critical roles for vulnerable populations. Health Care Tax Credits provide extra assistance, ensuring affordability. Out-of-Pocket Maximum limits protect against excessive costs. Health Care Provider Networks guarantee access to Primary Care Physicians and specialists. Prescription Drug Coverage is a standard feature, and Telemedicine offers remote healthcare access. Health Insurance Premiums, Deductibles, and Co-payments collectively shape the financial aspects, allowing individuals to tailor plans according to their needs. The ACA's legacy is evident in the improved access and comprehensive coverage options available today.
